The Rapping
7m 55s
A man reading alone in his home begins to hear a faint, rhythmic sound. What starts as an almost imperceptible disturbance grows increasingly insistent, echoing from nowhere and everywhere at once. Whether something has entered his home, or his mind, becomes impossible to determine.
Shot in stark black and white, the film builds its dread through minimalism, silence, and disorienting sound design rather than conventional scares. Its audio landscape incorporates real recordings from NASA's InSight Mars lander, lending the disturbance an otherworldly texture that resists easy explanation.
Inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven," The Rapping trades the poem's raven for something less nameable, and its narrator's descent for a quieter, more sustained unease.
